Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: Farre studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris under Gustave Moreau (1826-1898). After his education, he moved to Buenos Aires and painted society portraits and landscapes, and it is likely that the present work was conceived during this time. While abroad, he submitted paintings for the Paris Salon every year from 1897 until 1914. With the outbreak of the First World War, he returned to France and was commissioned to paint the aviation forces and the aerial battles they participated in. As a result he received the awards of the Legion d'Honneur and the Croix de Guerre.
