Although his work is known as Tonalistic, artist Edward Loyal Field's landscapes often depict rays of light on a clump of trees or a small part of the scenery, giving the illusion of drama to an otherwise unimpressive view. Characterized by impasto techniques, which left a tactile surface on the canvas, painter Edward Loyal Field gave his landscapes a stimulating 3D effect. Field exhibited his landscapes regularly in Boston, Washington, and San Francisco, among others.
