MallamsWilliam Teulon Blandford Fletcher, British 1858-1936- Rocky coastal scene with a figure in a rowing boat; oil on panel, signed, in original glazed gilt composition frame, 25x33.2cm Note: Blandford Fletcher was born in Hampstead, London and trained at the South Kensington School of Art, during his time there he visited Brittany to experience the European method of 'plein air' realism. In 1885 he joined his friend Stanhopes Forbes in Newlyn and briefly became part of this school. He felt that much of the Newyln art lacked subjects that appealed to him to paint and as such whilst remaining friends with many of the Newlyn School artists and adhering to their ethos of plein air realism throughout his career he left Cornwall for Oxfordshire where he remained until his death in 1936.
