In very good condition with slight wear consistent with its age. Measurements: 32.5 x 19 x 19 cm. Elegant walnut-stained wooden wastebasket, featuring an inverted truncated pyramid body resting on a square base. Its design, characterized by clean, balanced lines, reflects the understated and refined aesthetic typical of interwar French taste. The piece evokes the influence of Jean-Michel Frank, one of the great innovators of 20th-century design, whose pursuit of simplicity, perfect proportions, and the nobility of materials transformed the concept of modern luxury, moving away from ornamentation to focus on the purity of form. Jean-Michel Frank (1895–1941) was a French designer and interior decorator considered a key figure of Modernism. Jean-Michel Frank was one of the pre-eminent designers of the 1930s and 40s. His designs graced some of the finest Parisian homes and his classically modern mix of understated luxury combined with exotic materials has meant his work is still widely collected. This monograph, now scarce in English, examines both his life and work as a furniture and interior designer, and remains the key work on Frank.

A Canape Club sofa designed c. 1930s, and produced for the Llao Llao Hotel, Bariloche, Argentina, c. 1939. Sofa is upholstered in a very fine split grain leather (to call it simply suede would be likening a Bugatti to a Fiat). This sofa is truly a rare and highly sought after piece of modern design and it comes with impeccable provenance. When only the best and ORIGINAL will do, The iconic piece of design was purchased in 2000 from Friedman & Vallois. Reference: See L. D. Sanchez, p. 116, 123. The original chair was purchased in 2000 for $50,000 from Friedman & Vallois (with additional upholstery costs), with the reproduction was commissioned/purchased in addition to the original chair to accomplish a pair.
