Arnold Friberg's Original Paintings of the Eight Faces of Moses

        Est: $600,000 - $800,000

RR Auction will be offering a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own a set of 8 original paintings by renowned artist Arnold Friberg, created for use in the making of Cecil B. DeMille's masterful 1956 classic, The Ten Commandments. Recently attributed to Friberg by art historian and author Lawrence Jeppson, this collection of portraits is one of the most important Friberg discoveries of recent years, bringing together four of the biggest names in art and entertainment. Used by legendary makeup artists Wally and Frank Westmore as the templates for Charlton Heston's transformation from a young slave to a wizened prophet, they are among the finest pieces of Hollywood art ever to come to market. Within each image, one can see the precision of Friberg's celebrated style from top to bottom. His meticulous detail brings to life every feature, with the culmination of subtle changes telling not only the natural story of aging, but also revealing hints of the remarkable events that brought Moses to each stage-darkened skin and a hair out of place as he finally reaches Jethro's well, a barely detectable new wrinkle to the forehead before he first hears the voice of God, a slightly furrowed brow with a single fleck of grey as he begins his return to Egypt, and the weathered skin and distinguished beard of a prophet ascending to immortality after a lifetime of struggle. Though unsigned, each painting holds Friberg's unique calligraphy across the top indicating the period of the prophet's life that it depicts.Lot Includes:(1) Arnold Friberg original oil painting "Moses working as a slave in the brick pits" (1) Arnold Friberg original oil painting "Moses at Jethro's well in Midian" (1) Arnold Friberg original oil painting "Moses with Sephora in the land of Midian" (1) Arnold Friberg original oil painting "Moses before seeing the Burning Bush"(1) Arnold Friberg original oil painting "Moses after seeing the Burning Bush"(1) Arnold Friberg original oil painting "Moses at the crossing of the Red Sea" (1) Arnold Friberg original oil painting "Moses seeing the orgy of the Golden Calf" (1) Arnold Friberg original oil painting "Moses ascending to immortality on Mount Nebo" Please contact [email protected] for a condition report.Visit our e-catalog at http://issuu.com/rrauction/docs/8faces
