LOT NOTES Henry Eugene Fritz (German-American, 1868–1945) was a German-American artist known for his finely rendered portraiture and pastoral landscapes, which often reflected the sensibilities of late 19th and early 20th century American realism. Born in Germany in 1868, Fritz immigrated to the United States as a young man, settling in the Midwest, where he would spend much of his professional life. Fritz showed early artistic promise and pursued formal training, likely attending art schools in Chicago, which was a cultural hub for artists during that period. His work reveals influences from both academic European traditions and the American regionalist style that flourished during the early 20th century.     Gypsie. Oil on canvas. 24" x 20". Small old repairs on back. Henry Eugene Fritz was born in 1875 in Lubben, Germany. He studied art in both Germany and New York City. Fritz attended Cooper Union Art School in New York City, as well as Columbia University, New York University from which he received a Doctor of Pedagogy, the National Academy of Design, the Society of Beaux-Arts Architects and the Art Students League. Some of the prominent painters he studied with were George Bridgman, Robert Blum, George Maynard, Charles Y. Turner and Arthur W. Dow. See Photos for Details.
