The composition features three industrial workers in active, strained poses operating a central drilling apparatus. The work utilizes a highly textured, expressive surface treatment to convey the physical exertion of industrial labor. The sculpture is finished with a dark brown patina and is mounted on a rectangular black wooden plinth. The bronze base bears an incised signature G. Gach with a copyright symbol and the date 1974. This signature and date are repeated on the side of the wooden base. The front of the plinth is mounted with two brass plaques: one reading G. GACH and another identifying an Honorable Mention award from the Hudson Valley Art Association. The underside of the wooden base is inscribed by hand with the title Oil Riggers and By G. Gach 1974.
