He received the Ahinkar Kyaw Swar in 1953 by the Union of Myanmar, and his work in in the collections of the National Museum in Myanmar, and the Tadmadaw Museum in Yangon. Please compare this painting to the oil painting 'Scene from the town' (c.1950), sold at Christie's, Hong Kong, 25 November 2018, lot 366 with a comparable landscape. Ngwe Gaing (1901–1967), an artist of Burmese Chinese ancestry, worked both in oils and watercolour. After the death of his teacher Ba Nyan, he was recognized as the greatest living painter in Myanmar. He had a great influence on the next generation of artists, and his works are now highly sought after.
