Paul Geissler Sold at Auction Prices

Architecture painter, Landscape painter, Painter, copperplate engraver, Etcher, b. 1881 - d. 1965

Paul Geissler's prints and etchings capture a moment in time. He was born in Erfurt, Germany, in 1881. Geissler began his career as an artist at the School of Arts and Crafts in Erfurt and later went on to study at the School of Arts in Weimar. His love for painting soon transitioned into a passion for etching, for which he is best known. An extensive traveler, Paul Geissler's etchings reflect the world he experienced as he absorbed the scenery, people, and landmarks of major cities around the globe.

He spent a large amount of time in the United States and Europe during the 1920s and 1930s, recording the everyday scenes of such places as New York, Berlin, and Washington D.C. Paul Geissler's prints are a glimpse into the world during that time. Collectors can find vintage etchings for sale at online auction to find a piece that suits their decor.

          Paul Geissler (German, 1881-1965)

          Est: $200 - $300

Paul Geissler (German, 1881–1965) was an German artist, best known for his etchings of landscapes, figures, and the street scenes of cultural centers like Paris, Washington D.C., and Berlin. Born on June 25, 1881 in Erfurt, Germany, he originally studied painting and printmaking in 1903 at the Grand-Ducal School of Arts in Weimer before going on to dedicate his work to the practice of etching. Following a prolific period of travel to the United States and Italy in 1928, Geissler continued to produce work through World War II and was appointed a professor in Germany in 1943. The artist died on May 30, 1965. Offered here is an original pencil signed etching of the Trust Bridge in Hamburg, image approx. 9 x 5-1/4 in. Plus margins. Obviously this had been framed and exposed to the sun for years which causes the dark area where the mat opening was. Other than the sun-toning it is in very good condition.
