Travel writing desk from the Charles X period, made of rosewood and Ceylon lemonwood. It has a slanted top that opens to reveal a compartmentalized interior, functionally designed for writing and storing documents. François-Simon-Alphonse Giroux was a French art restorer and cabinetmaker. He studied painting with Jacques-Louis David and founded an art restoration business in the late 18th century. He was the official restorer of Notre Dame Cathedral, and collected and exhibited works of art by Louis Daguerre, Charles Marie Bouton, Charles Arrowsmith, Charles Renoux and others. In addition to restoring art, he sold furniture in various styles for the French royal family and others. With key.

An exceptional small marble marquetry table stamped Alphonse Giroux, a Parisian painter, tablemaker and cabinetmaker whose activity flourished from the Consulate to the end of the Second Empire with the father and then the sons, whose speciality was the manufacture of very high quality small furniture for the bourgeoisie and the nobility. A marble marquetry top on a black background with a luminous decor of antique pottery, flowering vases and shells in shades of blue, orange and yellow reminiscent of gold, finished with a bronze frieze around the edge. A 19th century piece of very high quality with its marquetry work and finely chased gilded bronzes representing the faces of Satyrs in the four corners at the junction of the entablature and the legs, which are themselves finished with acanthus leaves. The front of the drawer is adorned in the centre with a Caryatid face, also in gilt bronze, and the lock is stamped "Alph. ALPHONSE GIROUX (1775-1848): A RARE MUSICAL DESK STAND CIRCA 1840 ALPHONSE GIROUX (1775-1848): A RARE MUSICAL DESK STAND CIRCA 1840 the encrier in the style of a Directoire period 'au bon sauvage', figural group, depicting a native American or African tribal figure with a child, in dark patinated bronze and gilt bronze, the figure with quiver on his back to carry the winding key, the child beating a drum fitted with an inkwell, his torso removable and functioning as a seal, a pen holder beside the figures modelled as a plant, on a naturalistic base signed 'ALPH GIROUX et Cie EDITEURS', mounted on a kingwood and ormolu mounted plinth containing a musical movement, on four paw feet, 22cm high Maison Alphonse Giroux was founded by François-Simon-Alphonse and continued in 1838 by his two sons, Alphonse-Gustave (1810-1886) and André (1801-1879). They specialised in extremely fine quality small furnishings and decorative works of art such as caskets, candlesticks, trays and mirrors; and were favoured by the French royal family; a testament to the exceptional quality of the works they produced. In 1867 Alphonse Giroux ceded the company to Duvinage and Harinkouck, who continued the firm under the same name until 1885 when it closed. Important works of art by Maison Alphonse Giroux can now be found in many of the major museums across the world including the Musée d'Orsay, Paris.

Große Schatulle in Boulle-Technik von Alphonse Giroux (gest. vor 1848 Paris)

Höhe: 21 cm. Breite: 53 cm. Tiefe: 37 cm. Auf der Schlossplatine gravierte Signatur „Alph. Giroux a Paris“. Die signierte und aufwändig in Boulle-Technik gearbeitete Deckelschatulle zeigt sich an Front und Rückseite konvex, an den Seiten segmentförmig geschweift. Die Boden- und Deckelkanten mit gebündeltem Stabprofil, mit vergoldeter Bronze besetzt, begleitet durch Perlstab. Allseitig in Boulle-Technik –Messingeinlagen in rötlichem Schildpatt – gearbeitet, im Rocaillearabeskenstil mit zentraler Kartusche auf dem Deckelzentrum, darin graviertes Monogramm. Inneres in gut erhaltenem, violettem Samt ausgekleidet. Eingebautes Frontschloss in Messing mit zwei Zuhaltungen, Schlüssel vorhanden. Anmerkung: Giroux war in Paris in der 7, rue du Coq Saint-Honoré situiert und arbeitete ab 1799 für adeliges und großbürgerliches Klientel, wobei u.a. Charles X und Louis XVIII Geschenke für Prinzessin Louise und den Herzog von Bordeaux bestellt haben. Alphonse Giroux wurde mit mehreren nationalen und internationalen Ehrungen ausgezeichnet, so 1834, bevor er 1848 verstarb. (12112141) (11) Export restrictions ouside the EU.

Alphonse Giroux (vers 1775-1840) Table circulaire en bronze doré, les montants façon bambou, réunis par trois plateaux en verre gravé à motif de flurs. Signée de la Maison Alphonse giroux à Paris. Epoque napoléon III h 81 × Ø 32 cm Une table identique faisait jadis partie de la collection King (illustrée dans Le XIXe siècle français, Paris, 1957, p.51). Une autre table signée de la Maison Alphonse Giroux, le plateau constitué d'un verre également en cristal gravé, et reposant sur un piétement en bronze façon bambou à volutes, faisait partie de l'ancienne collection Bergé Saint Laurent (vente Christie's, les 17-20 novembre 2009, lot 92). La Maison Giroux s'illustra à plusieurs reprises dans l'association du bronze et du cristal gravé; on connaît notamment un modèle de coupe dont la monture simule également des bambous et dont les anses sont identiques à celles de la table présentée. Seltenes, vergoldetes Schreibzeug-Tintenfass von Alphonse Giroux, 1775 - 1848 Paris Höhe: 14 cm. Basislänge: 13,5 cm. An der Deckelinnenseite Herstellerbezeichnung „ALPH. GIROUX-PARIS". Der Aufbau noch ganz der Formensprache des Louis XVI verpflichtet, in Form eines ovalen Sockeltabletts auf vier Spindelfüßen, mit umlaufendem Blattfries an der Oberseite, in Elfenbein und verschiedenfarbenen Hölzern mit Blumendekor intarsiert. Darauf eine godronnierte Deckelschale mit eingezogenem Fuß, umziehenden Perlstäben sowie zwei seitlichen, vollplastisch gegossenen und ziselierten Widderköpfen. An der Vorderseite hochovales Medaillon, eingefasst von Lorbeerzweigen, im Medaillon eine Elfenbeinplatte mit ziseliertem Monogramm. Der Runddeckel an der Oberseite ebenfalls in Elfenbein und Rosenhölzern intarsiert, bekrönt mit einem nach oben sich verjüngenden Zapfen. Insgesamt feuervergoldet, im Inneren kleiner Porzellaneinsatz mit vergoldetem Rand.
