      • Att to Ted Godwin, Untitled (abstract with circles)
        Nov. 28, 2021

Att to Ted Godwin, Untitled (abstract with circles)

        Est: $1,500 - $2,000

Labeled "Godwin - 4" on the back. Watercolour on paper. Opinions on all the works attributed to Ted Godwin in this auction have been sought from Galleries familiar with Godwin's work, professionals who worked with Godwin, and family members of Godwin's. It is generally agreed that the handwriting on the back of a few of these panels are Godwin's and it has been suggested that it is possible that they are Godwin’s work from the ‘50’s with the exception of the last two water photos. It was suggested by family members that these were most likely created during his ACA years (1950 - 1954) and perhaps given or traded to another art student. Ted Godwin was one of the Regina Five Group of painters. He graduated from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology and Art in 1955. He studied with Barnett Newman, John Ferren, Jules Olitski and Lawrence Alloway at the Emma Lake Artists Workshop from 1959 to 1965. He was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy in 1974. Ted Godwin received the Order of Canada in the summer of 2004 for his excellence in the field of visual art. Ted Godwin passed away on January 4, 2013 but will continue to remain an integral part of Canadian art history, and his influence on fine art will live on through his paintings.
