Disegno connesso con una delle illustrazioni per Scènes de la vie privée et publique des animaux, Etudes de moeurs contemporaines, Edité par J. Hetzel, Editeur, Paris, 1841-1842, raccolta di articoli e racconti satirici pubblicati a puntate dal 1840 al 1842, poi riuniti in una pubblicazione illustrata in due volumi dal 1841 al 1842. Edizione curata da Pierre-Jules Hetzel con la collaborazione di celebri scrittori, tra cui P.-J. Stahl (pseudonimo di Pierre-Jules Hetzel), Honoré de Balzac, Charles Nodier, George Sand, Émile de La Bédollière, Gustave Droz, Jules Janin, Paul de Musset. Ogni testo è illustrato con vignette di Grandville dove compaiono animali in vesti e atteggiamenti umani. La scena riproduce tre pinguini a braccetto in testa al branco che incitano gli altri animali a fuggire dal serraglio con il pretesto che bisogna accertare la loro fede politica: per questo si svuotano le mangiatoie e si lascia solo la fame. I tre pinguini obbediscono agli ordini segreti della volpe la quale pensa che il coraggio di alcuni animali risieda in fondo alla mangiatoia: "Affamateli, disse, e ne farete degli eroi.". Nessuno conosce i tre pinguini: non sappiamo né da dove vengono, né cosa vogliono, ma li seguiamo. Santa fiducia!
