The 'Dent du Midi', Switzerland signed 'N E Green' (lower right) and inscribed 'Dent du Midi' (lower left) pencil and watercolour 163/4 x 111/4in. (42.5 x 28.5cm.) NOTES This scene appears to be after Alexandre Calame (1810-1864). Probably the most influential and popular Swiss landscape painter of the Nineteenth Century, he was a pupil in Geneva of Francois Diday (1802-77). His many paintings of the mountains of Switzerland were based on drawings and studies done from nature during summer sketching expeditions.
