Tom Greenshields (1915-1994) Bronze Nude Female

Bronze nude of a woman. Signed on right lower leg "T Greenshields". Felt on bottom of knees marked "113/200". Condition: Scratches to lower back and right calf. Smaller scratches throughout. 13" x 15" x 5 3/4" Size: 14 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 13 in. #2245 . Tom Greenshields was born in 1915, the grandson of the Victorian painter Edouard Van Goethem. He attended the Slade School of Art and it was here that he received a classical training in drawing and anatomy which was to fuel his life long artistic interest and passion in representing the human body. In 1980, Greenshields lost his right hand in a farming accident. After this, he transferred his artistic skills to his left hand and went on to produce some of his finest figurative sculptures. Greenshields was a versatile painter and draughtsman. He became admired and appreciated by collectors worldwide for his figurative nude sculpture. His style is instantly recognizable, being both natural and sensual. Whatever the medium, all pieces are individually hand cast, fettled and patinated and finished with an almost obsessive attention to detail.
