Alex Grey American, b. 1953 Untitled, 1982 Signed A. Grey and dated 11/5-6/82 (lr) Acrylic and paint marker on black paper 40 x 32 x 1/8 inches (101.6 x 81.28 x 0.31 cm) Unframed From 1982, this large scale seminal work predates Grey's well-known album art for bands such as Tool, Nirvana and the Beastie Boys. In addition to his fine art, Grey is a globally recognized leader in the mystical arts and transcendentalism, teaching, along with his wife at CoSM in Wappinger New York. While his work is avidly collected by fans of psychedelic art and culture, Grey's work has a direct connection to the late surrealist Pavel Tchelitchew, as both artists invested much of their careers into studying and depicting the human anatomy.
