                Chaim Gross,  Austrian/American 1904-1991 -  Seated nude;  watercolour and pencil on paper, signed lower right 'Chaim Gross', 36 x 35.4 cm  Note:  sculptor Chaim Gross immigrated to New York in 1921 where he became a vital figure in the in the artistic landscape. The artist has been the subject of solo exhibitions at numerous galleries and museums in the US, including solo shows at the Jewish Museum, New York in 1953 and 1977 and more recently at the Wadsworth Atheneum Musuem of Art in 2020 and the Norton Museum of Art in 2021. In 1959, the artist was featured in the exhibit 'Four American Expressionists' curated by Lloyd Goodrich at the Whitney Museum of American Art, with work by Abraham Rattner, Doris Caesar, and Karl Knaths.
