    Vic Guhrs (German/Zambia, b. 1943), "Rhinoceros", oil on canvas, signed lower left, 24 in. x 40 in., framed; together with "Lions", lithograph, signed and inscribed lower right, sight 12 in. x 18 in., framed. (2 pcs.) Note: Vic Guhrs left his native Germany at the age of twenty-two to complete his studies in Johannesburg, South Africa. He later moved to the remote Zambia Luangwa Valley to live in a small camp and study wildlife. Guhrs' time there greatly affected his work, filling it not only with observational clarity but with the knowledge that humans have lost the words to speak about nature and our interconnectedness with it. He found painting helped to illuminate the connection with nature and the healing power of wilderness. Many of his collectors (including H.R.H. Prince Philip) have stated that he is not successful as a wildlife painter, but as a fine artist whose subjects happen to be wildlife. In describing his own artistic thought process: “When I paint an eagle, lion, an old man’s portrait, a tree, or the nude figure of a woman, I am acutely aware of the inclusiveness of all life on our planet.
