    Hugh Gumpel The America's Cup / Newport R.I. vintage poster 1970 29 h x 23 w in (74 x 58 cm) National flags jostle and clash, spinning out stars, as spinnakers swing round in this abstract, minimalist celebration of the 1970 America's Cup. The numeral 12 refers to the 12-metre class of yachts used in this race. In the 1970 contest, only the 22nd to be held in this series since 1851, the U.S. Intrepid, skippered by Bill Ficker ("Ficker is Quicker"), beat the Australian Gretel II four races to one. Gretel II had beaten France to reach the final; an apparent artist's mistake has the Dutch national flag approximating the French Tricoleur.
