    Graphite on paper drawing. After the 1929 painting titled El Beso del Idolo, The Kiss of the Idol, by Cecilio Guzman de Rojas, 1899 to 1950, a Bolivian artist, a leader of the indigenous art movement. He is known for mixing Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles with Indigenist imagery. The artwork depicts a young semi-nude woman in spiritual connection with totems. Signed in the lower left. The original artwork is now in a private collection. Collectible Graphic Art, Latin American Artists.

    CECILIO GUZMAN de ROJAS (Bolivia, 1900-1950) four drawings (one watercolor and three pencil drawings), Chaco War scenes, two portraits, a look-out tower and a landscape with figures and a destroyed house. One soldier portrait has an additional drawing on the verso and the landscape has illegible writing on the verso. Two are signed and dated 1934. Images measure from 7.5" x 9.75" to 12.5" x 8.5". Unframed. Proceeds to benefit the Portland Art Museum.

Condition: The sheet is mounted on cardboard at multiple points. It is somewhat discolored and light-stained, consistent with age. The margins show several crease marks and tears. The sheet’s dimensions are 22.8 x 30 cm. Cecilio Guzmán de Rojas (1899-1950) The Bolivian painter Cecilio Guzmán de Rojas was a student of Avelino Nogales and Julio Romero de Torres. In his works, he dealt mainly with the indigenous culture of the Aymara, examining their cultural identity. He created numerous drawings during the Chaco War between Bolivia and Paraguay from 1934 to 1935.
