Una Hanbury Bronze of Big Horn Sheep Pair.

This bighorn sheep sculpture is signed, "Una". It is not attached to the base, which is petrified wood on stone. The bronze portion measures 12" tall, 4 1/4" wide, 3 1/2" deep. UNA (RAWNSLEY) HANBURY BIGHORN SHEEP BRONZE SCULPTURE

Una (Rawnsley) Hanbury (1904 - 1990) Bighorn Sheep Bronze Sculpture. Signed Una and numbered 5/10 near bottom of sculpture. Hanbury was born in Middlesex, England. Jacob Epstein was her most influential teacher. She moved to Washington D.C. in 1944 to work for the British Embassy. In 1970 she moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico where she stayed until her death in 1990. She developed a fine reputation as a portrait sculptor, and commissions included busts of Rachel Carson, Enrico Fermi, Buckminster Fuller, Laura Gilpin, Richard Neutral, Georgia O'Keeffe, Robert Oppenheimer, S. Dillon Ripley, and Andrés Segovia. In addition animals were a favorite subject, sculptures were commissioned by several zoos, and horse portraits often were commissioned by owners.
