Gerahmt (ungeöffnet). - Punktuell leichte Oberflächenbereibungen und vereinzelte Kratzer, letzte vorwiegend im unteren Bereich der Darstellung. Im rechten Bildbereich mit leichten Feuchtigkeitsflecken. Unter UV keine Retuschen erkennbar. Insgesamt gut. Portrait aus dem Spätwerk des Künstlers, in tonalen, matten Farben mit abstrahierender Formensprache. Tempera on canvas. Signed, titled and dated (crossed out) and inscribed in an unknown hand on the verso. Framed (unopened). - Minor surface rubbing and scattered scratches in places, the latter predominantly in the lower area of the depiction. In the right side of the painting with slight moisture spots. No visible retouching under UV. Good overall. Portrait from the artist's late work, in tonal, matt colours with abstract formal language. - Exhibited in: Hamburgische Landesbank 1998, no. 84. - The motif of the seated woman has recurred throughout Erich Hartmann's painterly oeuvre since his early work. Hartmann's artistic development can be easily recognised and depicted through his constant use of the motif: The early depictions from around 1913, for example, differ significantly in their still academic painting style from the variants of the 1920s, which are indebted to New Objectivity (cf. Werner 30 and 70). Our work from 1972 is from the late period and was created just two years before the artist's death. In addition to the motif, Hartmann also works significantly here with the colours, which he layers flat and dry, the contours are black and strongly outlined, the formal language simple. Hartmann holds the sitter's cardigan in the signal colour red, a stylistic decision that he had already used in 1965 in a comparable portrait of a woman (Werner 223). Looking directly at the observer, Hartmann's sitter appears in a calm, neutral frame. Hartmann has depersonalised the woman in favour of an abstract formal language and shows once again that our work is a personal-style painting from the late period. Werner 273. - Ausgestellt in: Hamburgische Landesbank 1998, Nr. 84. - Das Motiv der sitzenden Frau zieht sich seit dem Frühwerk wiederkehrend durch Erich Hartmanns malerisches Oeuvre. Durch das stete Aufgreifen des Motives lässt sich auch Hartmanns künstlerische Entwicklung sehr gut erkennen und darstellen: So unterscheiden sich die frühen Darstellungen um 1913 in ihrer noch akademisch behafteten Malweise wesentlich von den Varianten der 1920er Jahre, die der Neuen Sachlichkeit verpflichtet sind (vgl. Werner 30 und 70). Unsere Arbeit von 1972 stammt aus dem Spätwerk und ist nur 2 Jahre vor dem Tod des Künstlers entstanden. Signifikant arbeitet Hartmann hier neben dem Motiv auch mit den Farben, die er flächig und trocken schichtet, die Konturen sind schwarz und kräftig umrandet, die Formensprache schlicht. In der Signalfarbe rot hält Hartmann die Strickjacke der Dargestellten, eine stilistische Entscheidung, die er bereits 1965 bei einem vergleichbaren Frauenportrait anwendet (Werner 223). Direkt uns Beobachter anblickend, zeigt sich Hartmanns Dargestellte in ruhiger, neutraler Fassung. Hartmann hat die Frau zugunsten der abstrahierenden Formensprache auf eine Art entpersonalisiert und zeigt einmal mehr, dass unsere Arbeit ein personalstilistisches Gemälde aus dem Spätwerk ist.

Gerahmt (ungeöffnet). - Punktuell leichte Oberflächenbereibungen und vereinzelte Kratzer, letzte vorwiegend im unteren Bereich der Darstellung. Im rechten Bildbereich mit leichten Feuchtigkeitsflecken. Unter UV keine Retuschen erkennbar. Insgesamt gut. Portrait aus dem Spätwerk des Künstlers, in tonalen, matten Farben mit abstrahierender Formensprache. Werner 273. - Ausgestellt in: Hamburgische Landesbank 1998, Nr. 84. - Das Motiv der sitzenden Frau zieht sich seit dem Frühwerk wiederkehrend durch Erich Hartmanns malerisches Oeuvre. Durch das stete Aufgreifen des Motives lässt sich auch Hartmanns künstlerische Entwicklung sehr gut erkennen und darstellen: So unterscheiden sich die frühen Darstellungen um 1913 in ihrer noch akademisch behafteten Malweise wesentlich von den Varianten der 1920er Jahre, die der Neuen Sachlichkeit verpflichtet sind (vgl. Werner 30 und 70). Unsere Arbeit von 1972 stammt aus dem Spätwerk und ist nur 2 Jahre vor dem Tod des Künstlers entstanden. Signifikant arbeitet Hartmann hier neben dem Motiv auch mit den Farben, die er flächig und trocken schichtet, die Konturen sind schwarz und kräftig umrandet, die Formensprache schlicht. In der Signalfarbe rot hält Hartmann die Strickjacke der Dargestellten, eine stilistische Entscheidung, die er bereits 1965 bei einem vergleichbaren Frauenportrait anwendet (Werner 223). Direkt uns Beobachter anblickend, zeigt sich Hartmanns Dargestellte in ruhiger, neutraler Fassung. Hartmann hat die Frau zugunsten der abstrahierenden Formensprache auf eine Art entpersonalisiert und zeigt einmal mehr, dass unsere Arbeit ein personalstilistisches Gemälde aus dem Spätwerk ist.
