Drawing on his active spiritual life and his exposure to the dichotomy between traditional and modern forms, he sought to be a bridge between the Eastern and Western schools of art. Today, his paintings are housed in permanent exhibitions at the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Museum Fuji in Tokyo. Shōichi Hasegawa, "Paysage champetre", large carborundum colour etching, signed, gallery-framed Shōichi Hasegawa, 1929 in Yaizu - 1923 Paris, Japanese painter and graphic artist in Paris, here: Abstract landscape on a pale blue background, carborundum colour etching, approx. 60 x 70 cm, numbered 86/110, inscribed "Paysage champetre", signed, under P.partout in gallery frame From 1945 to 1951 he trained and studied under Yoshinari Koga, then moved to Tokyo and studied painting at the Koguga Academy. In 1961 Hasegawa moved to Paris with his wife to learn the etching technique, which was not widely used in Japan. He became a student at the Hayter studio, which was considered the cradle of graphic art in France at the time. In Paris, he came increasingly under European influence, and the relationship between his works and Paul Klee is particularly clear.
