Fritz Hegenbart, malíř a grafik, narozený v roce 1864 v Salzburgu, zemřel v roce 1943 v Bavorském Gmeinu; vyrůstal v intelektuální pražské rodině; původně studoval hudbu, v roce 1886 však přestoupil na Akademii výtvarných umění v Praze. Po studiích ve Frankfurtu, Salzburgu, Paříži a Dinkelsbühlu se usadil v Mnichově, kde navštěvoval tamní akademii, ateliér prof. Johanna Franka Kirchbacha. V Mnichově si posléze otevřel vlastní malířskou školu; byl spolupracovníkem mnichovského časopisu „Fliegenden Blätter“ a uměleckého avantgardního časopisu „Jugend“, který se již v roce 1892, jako první vůbec, věnoval mnichovské „secesní revoltě“. Na počátku své samostatné umělecké dráhy byl markantně ovlivněn secesí, později se od čistého dekorativismu odvrátil a soustředil se zejména na postimpresionistické krajinomalby.
