Zisska & LacherFriedrich Wilhelm Heine, German 1845-1921- Standing Courtier; watercolour on paper, signed with initials 'F.W.H' (lower right), 31 x 21.5 cm. Note: Heine was a war correspondent and sketch artist with the Prussian Army in Austria, and a field artist in the Franco-Prussian War of 1871. He was particularly celebrated for his genre works and paintings depicting Norse mythology.

A beautiful watercolor by German-born artist Friedrich Wilhelm Heine, depicting a Mexican couple, the woman carrying an infant on her back, and an adorable dog, strolling by the Benito Huarez Hemicycle, a Neoclassical monument in Mexico City commemorating Juarez, with a Doric colonnade, two monumental sculptures of lions, and a republican eagle above, all adorning the base of the pedestal for the statue of Juarez. Also featured is a dedicatory plaque with the inscription, "Al benemerito Benito Juarez la Patria" (translation: To the meritorious Benito Juarez, the Homeland). Heine painted this watercolor in 1910, four years after the construction began in 1906 to honor the centennial of Juarez's birth. The monument was dedicated on September 18, 1910. Set in a nice period frame under glass.
