She holds a muff in her left hand. With her right hand, she gathers her skirt. Her finely rendered, brunette hair is covered by a large hat adorned with a blue feather and a checkered scarf.     Like the previous figurine (Child with a Doll) it has all four marks of the Meissen porcelain manufactory: in addition to the underglaze mark (blue crossed swords) and the stamped model number (U 149), there is also the painter’s color mark (64) on the bottom and a stamped mark indicating which piece from the mold it is—with the rule that the lower the number, the higher the quality of the piece—in this case, the 6th piece out of a total of 200.     Konrad Hentschel was a painter, designer, and sculptor, and a leading figure of the Art Nouveau movement. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and Dresden. From 1889, he worked as a modeler at the Meissen porcelain manufactory. The highlight of his figurative work is the series known as the “Hentschelkinder,” twelve figurines of children at play from the first decade of the 20th century, from which this statuette originates.
