Artist Laura Coombs Hills helped revive the miniature portraiture movement in America through her work that was inspired by the miniature paintings she observed during her time in England in 1893. She was largely self-taught, but also studied with Helen Mary Knowlton (a student of William Morris Hunt) before studying at Cowles Art School and the New York Art Students League.
