Kunst- und Auktionshaus QuedlinburgVINCENT HLOZNIK (1919-1937) CIRCUS 1940s, Slovakia Hložník belongs to the second wave of modern Slovak artists. He was influenced by the work of artists from "Generace 1909", especially Cyprián Majerník. Circus scenes, clowns, Pierrots and Columbinas are frequent subjects of his work in the 1940s. Hložník even chose the circus as the topic of his final project at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, where he studied under Professors František Kysela and Josef Novák. Oil on cardboard, unsigned.
