Solche orientalischen Eindrücke sind Hauptinhalt des Werkes von Victor Pierre Huguet. Er studierte bei dem Landschafts- und Tiermaler Émile Loubon an der École supérieure des beaux-arts de Marseille. Später wurde er in Paris Schüler des Orientalisten Eugène Fromentin. 1852 unternahm er seine erste Reise nach Ägypten. Ein Jahr später begleitete er den Marinemaler Jean-Baptiste Henri Durand-Brager auf einer Expedition, um Szenen aus dem Krimkrieg zu malen. 1859 erstmals auf dem Pariser Salon und dem in Marseille. VICTOR-PIERRE HUGUET (France, 1835 - 1902). "Arab army". Oil on panel. Signed in the lower right corner. Measurements: 23 x 32 cm, 45 x 55 cm (frame). Scene that collects the main theme of the painting of Victor-Pierre, showing Arab characters, located on the outskirts of a city. It gathers a large number of characters, who can be identified as Arabs by their clothes and visible physical features. They are armed as if they were an army. This is due to the loose brushstroke of the painter, who approaches the scene with a very fast stroke and with a bright and luminous color that transports the viewer to the light of the African continent. These features introduce the work into the current of Orientalism. Orientalism was born in the 19th century as a consequence of the romantic spirit of flight in time and space. The first orientalists sought to reflect the lost, the unattainable, in a dramatic journey destined from the beginning to failure. Victor-Pierre Huguet made meticulous portraits of Orient and imagined pasts, recreated to the millimeter but ultimately unknown and idealized. During the 19th century, however, many of the painters who traveled to the Middle East in search of this invented reality discovered a different and new country, which stood out with its peculiarities above the clichés and prejudices of the Europeans. Thus, this new orientalist school leaves behind the beautiful odalisques, the harems and the slave markets to paint nothing but what they see, the real Orient in all its daily dimension. Along with the change of vision comes a technical and formal change; since it is no longer a matter of recreating an imagined world in all its details, the brushstroke acquires impressionist fluency, and the artists focus not so much on the depiction of the types and customs as on the faithful reflection of the atmosphere of the place, of the very identity of the North African populations. Victor-Pierre Huguet was a Parisian painter. He studied at the Ecole Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Marseille with Émile Loubon, who specialized in landscapes with animals. Later he studied with the orientalist painter Eugène Fromentin in Paris. He made his first trip to Egypt in 1852. The following year, he accompanied the marine painter, Jean-Baptiste. Henri Durand-Brager, on his expedition to paint scenes of the Crimean War. In 1859, he made his debut simultaneously at the Salon de Marseille and the SalonSociété des Peintres Orientalistes Français. To gather material and inspiration for his works, he made numerous trips to Libya, Egypt, Istanbul. and Algeria, which became his favorite destination. Over the years, his color palette brightened and his brush style became freer. He died in Paris in 1902. His works can be seen in the museums of Nîmes, Montpellier and Marseille.
