Very fine oil on canvas "Strawberries" painting by listed American artist Werner Hunzinger (1816-1861). Original information on paper attached to the back of the canvas. Werner Hunzinger (1816 - 1861) was active/lived in New York. Werner Hunzinger is known for Opulent still life, landscape.Born in Crefeld, Germany, he became a painter of lush comestible still life. Like a number of German artists including Severin Roesen, Charles Backofen, George Hetzel, and John Beigel, he likely immigrated to America in the mid-19th century to escape the turmoil of the 1848 revolutions. His style, with glassware reflecting the face of the artist, marble tops, and an occasion insect, was heavily influenced by the Dutch floral still life tradition of the 17th century as taught by Johann Wilhelm Preyer, the leading still-life painter of Dusseldorf.
