    Mary Jewels, British 1886-1977 - Fishing by the Bridge; oil on canvas, signed lower left 'M Jewels', 50 x 76 cm (ARR) Literature: Marion Whybrow: 'The Innocent Eye', Samson & Co., 1999, illus. p.104 Note: self-taught artist was encouraged to paint by Cedric Morris, Augustus John and Christopher Wood, in turn, and became part of artistic circles in Cornwall through her sister Corderlia who was married to Frank Dobson. She exhibited during her lifetime at Dorothy Warren’s Gallery, 1927 and Newlyn Art Gallery in 1977. Similar Cornish scenes are in public collections including The Box, Plymouth, Penlee House Gallery & Museum and Dorset Museum & Art Gallery.
