    Rudolf Kämmer (b. 1935), Art Box, 1962

    Est: €12,000 - €15,000

Mixed media with plastic, white stripes and wood, painted black Germany, 1962 Rudolf Kämmer (b. 1935) – German artist, living and working in Münsing/ Starnberger Lake Verso incised signature “Rudolf Kämmer” and date “1962” Overall dimensions: 83.5 x 83.5 x 7 cm Very good condition Large wall object in op-art style with manually adjustable rotating discs Object is regular taxed. 19% VAT is added to the purchase price for deliveries within the EU. Kämmer’s experimental art strives to visually examine surface, structure and objects themselves. The artist devoted himself to incorporating observer participation in his artwork. This object unites these guiding principles, with observers being invited to adjust a total of 9 rotating discs according to their will. Rotating the discs creates an effect that irritates the eyes – a typical characteristic of op art. The discs are positioned next to each other in nine piles (à 3 discs). This further heightens the effect of optical confusion. Condition: The art box is in very good condition with minimal signs of age and wear, such as slight surface abrasion in places. It measures a total of 83.5 x 83.5 x 7 cm. Rudolf Kämmer (b. 1935) The artist was born in Rudolstadt (Thuringen), 1935, and attended grammar school there from 1942-50. From 1950-53, he completed his training to become a decorative painter and then attended ABF-Hochschule für Bildende Kunst in Dresden as a student of Otto Griebel. He studied in Leipzig at the Hochschule für Grafik and Buchkunst under Professor Elisabeth Voigt and Wolfgang Mattheuer from 1956-57. Kämmer completed his diploma in painting at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts during 1957-64. He became a member of the “Nouvelles Tendances” group and founded the Ernst Geitlinger Gesellschaft e.V. in 1983.
