He exhibited 18 works at the Royal Academy, 10 at the Royal Hibernian Academy, 12 at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool and 8 at the New Gallery. His works can be seen at the National Gallery of Ireland, Manchester City Art Gallery and the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool.

LITERATURE Claude Phillips, 'The Summer Exhibitions at Home and Abroad II', Art Journal, 1890, p. 164. EXHIBITION London, New Gallery, Third Summer Exhibiiton, 1890, no. 162 (as Perseus ). NOTES Andromeda was the daughter of Cepheus, the king of the Ethiopians, and his wife Cassiepeia, or Cassiope. The legend of Perseus and Andromeda is founded on Apollod. Cassiepeia boasted that she was more beautiful than the Nereids. At this they complained to Poseidon, who flooded the land and sent a sea-monster to ravage it. On consulting Ammon, Cepheus learned that the only solution was to offer up Andromeda to the monster, and she was accordingly fastened to a rock on the sea-shore. Perseus, returning from taking the head of Medusa, passed Andromeda and fell in love with her. He persuaded her father to give his consent to their marriage if he slayed the sea-beast. He killed the animal but Cepheus' brother Phineus, who had previously been betrothed to Andromeda, plotted against him and, according to Ovid attacked him. Perseus showed him and his soldiers Medusa's head which turned them all to stone. Perseus and Andromeda then stayed for a time with Cepheus, and left their eldest son, Perses, with him whilst they went on to Seiphus, and then to Argos and Tiryns. According to legend Andromeda, Perseus, Cepheus, Cassiepeia, and the monster were all turned into constellations bearing their names. Kennedy has depicted Perseus using Medusa's head to turn the monster into stone in order to free his beloved Andromeda. He is interpreting a passage from Charles Kingsley's poem Andromeda (1859): Once, as the dead eyes glared into his; then his sides death-sharpened, Stiffened and stood, brown rock, in the wash of the wandering water.'.
