In 1945, she was employed as an Official War Artist; one of only three women selected by the War Artists Advisory Committee to work in Germany. She spent six weeks travelling through the country, visiting several of the major cities, including Berlin, Hamburg and Potsdam and Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. Extracts from the journal she kept during this journey, were published in The Cornhill Magazine in 1946 and together with the charcoal drawings capturing the refugees, mainly women and children, record the often harrowing sights she encountered. Her first solo exhibition was held at the Leicester Galleries, London, in 1950; the first of a series of shows held at the gallery. She later exhibited with the New Grafton Gallery in 1969.
