Artist Gordon King grew up on the Fife coast of Scotland but relocated with his family to Berkshire, England after World War II. He showed an early aptitude for art, winning competitions as a child and studying life drawing and painting at Reading University as a young adult. While he built his personal portfolio of watercolor portraiture and paintings, Gordon King worked successfully as a freelance illustrator for several magazines and advertising agencies.
By the 1970s, as a result of his growing popularity, King was able to work full-time on his paintings. As an artist, Gordon King developed a signature style of depicting female subjects in verdant scenes. Silkscreens and limited edition prints of Gordon King's work continued to raise his profile, and he is considered one of England's best contemporary watercolor painters.
