EDUARDO KINGMAN (Ecuadorean, 1913 - 1997). Seated Girl, 1965, Oil on canvas. Signed "E Kingman" and dated lower right hand corner. Framed. PROVENANCE: Artwork was purchased in the early 1970s directly from the artist by a USA diplomat visiting Ecuador. Consignor acquired artwork at the estate sale (located in Bethesda, Maryland) of the diplomat in September 2021. ARTIST PROFILE: Kingman, an Ecuadorian artist, was considered one of Ecuador's greatest artists of the 20th century, among the art circles of other master artists such as Oswaldo Guayasamín and Camilo Egas. Kingman first studied under Victor Mideros at the Escuela de Bellas Artes, in Quito. Further studies took him to Venezuela, Peru, Bolivia and finally to San Francisco Art Institute, California (1945-1946). The unifying theme of Kingman's paintings, lithographies and woodcuts in expressing the social realities of Ecuador's indigenous peoples.
