(2)Provenance:David Wade Fine Art Ltd, North Yorkshire François Joseph Kinson (1771 - 1839) was a Flemish painter working in France. After studying at the Bruges academy, he was employed in 1801 as the court painter to Jerome of Westphalia (1784 - 1860), the youngest brother of Napoleon Bonaparte. After the fall of the Empire, Kinson was appointed painter to the Duke of Angoulême (1775 - 1844), the eldest son of Charles X and last Dauphin of France.Aglaé Auguié (1782 - 1854) was a French court official. She served as lady in waiting to Empress Joséphine de Beauharnais in 1804-1810, and to Empress Marie Louise in 1810-1813. She married Michel Ney at Thiverval-Grignon on 5 August 1802. Adèle Auguié was her sister.

    François Joseph KINS ON (1770-1839) « Portrait de Claude Antoine de Béziade, Duc d’Avaray, en habit de Pair de France, portant l’ordre de Saint Louis, la Légion d’honneur et les insignes de l’ordre du Saint Esprit. » Huile sur toile à vue ovale signé et daté « 1824 » (estompé). Sur sa toile d’origine, annoté au dos « Signé Kinson 1824 », marqué du fournisseur BELLOT au dos. 66 x 55 cm. Cadre à vue ovale à décor de palmettes et couronnes de laurier (redoré) avec cartouche d’attribution au fils du sujet. A.B.E. (Petits accidents et taches à la toile). Claude Antoine de Béziade (1740-1829) marquis puis (1817) 2e duc d’Avaray. Chevau-léger de la garde du roi en 1757, et fit, en qualité de capitaine, dans le régiment de Mestre-de-Camp Général, les campagnes de la guerre de Sept Ans, et fut blessé à la bataille de Minden le 1er août 1759. Il fut nommé colonel en 1765, maître de la garde-robe de Monsieur (depuis Louis XVIII) en 1771, brigadier le 1er mai 1780 et maréchal-de-camp le 5 décembre 1781. Grand bailli d’épée d’Orléans, il fut député de la Noblesse aux états généraux. Enfermé sous la terreur, il fut en résidence surveillée durant tout l’Empire. Deux de ses fils se distinguèrent. François qui fut un fidèle de Louis XVIII en exil, 1er Duc d’Avaray (son père reprendra ce titre), et Théophile qui fut fusillé suite à l’expedition de Quiberon. Chevalier de Saint-Louis (1771), Chevalier du Saint-Esprit (Paris, 30 septembre 1820) , Officier de la Légion d’honneur (29 août 1823). Pair de France en 1815.

    Kinson, François Joseph: Bildnis einer vornehmen Dame mit Sohn und Tochter Bildnis einer vornehmen Dame mit Sohn und Tochter. Öl auf Leinwand. 146 x 114 cm. Signiert. Ausgebildet in Brügge erlangte Kinson schon früh einen guten Ruf als vorzüglicher Porträtist. Bereits 1799 ging er nach Paris, wo er zahlreiche Bildnisse von Mitgliedern des Hauses Bonaparte ausführte und schließlich als Hofmaler Jérôme Bonapartes diesem nach Kassel folgte. Auch nach dem Sturz Napoleons und der Rückkehr nach Paris, 1813, blieb er weiterhin mit großem Erfolg als Bildnismaler tätig. Das vorliegende Familienbildnis - die Dargestellten dürften vermutlich aus dem Hause Bonaparte stammen-, zeigt in hervorragender Weise die hohen Qualitäten der Bildnismalerei Kinsons, zu denen ebenso die "verblüffende Ähnlichkeit [und] vornehme Auffassung" wie auch die "geschmackvolle Anordnung", "das leuchtende Kolorit" und die "virtuose Wiedergabe des Kostümlichen" (Thieme/Becker Bd. 20, S. 336) gehören.
