MOÏSE KISLING (CRACOVIE, 1891 – SANARY-SUR-MER, 1953) Bouquet de mimosas Vers 1930 Huile sur toile 38 x 55 cm Signée en bas à gauche « Kisling » Provenance Collection du fond d’atelier de l’artiste Certificat Michel Kisling « Les mimosas étaient les fleurs qui donnaient le plus de travail à mon père. Il peignait chaque boule une à une, en faisant tourner rapidement son pinceau généreusement enduit de couleur. À la fin du mouvement, il reculait prestement la main, ce qui formait une petite pointe, un très bas-relief. » Jean Kisling Dans une explosion de lumière, cette myriade de points jaunes emplit la presque totalité de la composition. Eruption volcanique, geyser d’or, feu d’artifice… cette profusion de billes jaunes frappe la rétine jusqu’à l’éblouissement. Une gageure en peinture ! Cependant, cette juxtaposition de points ne doit rien au mélange optique du pointillisme de Seurat. Ici, il s’agit tout simplement de représenter des fleurs de mimosas, ces minuscules boules jaunes fragiles et soyeuses. Le peintre choisit alors de traiter la masse des fleurs par cet assemblage minutieux de petits points jaunes réguliers, côte à côte, en relief, selon un procédé presque naïf. Ce jeu d’empâtement correspond ainsi parfaitement à la texture même de cette fleur granuleuse. Dépourvue de toute feuille, la gerbe surgit du fût d’un vase brun qui accentue l’analogie avec le volcan. Le choix du bleu, complémentaire du jaune, comme couleur de fond sert la puissance de cette masse florale. Sobre, efficace, équilibrée la composition se déploie toute en luminescence grâce à la présence, çà et là, de quelques points blancs qui, tels des reflets de lumière, procurent à l’ensemble cet effet scintillant, quand d’autres, bruns comme le vase, lui apportent une profondeur. Arbre d’origine exotique qui fleurit l’hiver dans le Sud de la France, le mimosa fascine littéralement Kisling qui en fait un motif récurrent durant toute sa carrière. Tel un exercice de style, l’artiste peindra plusieurs dizaines de bouquets de mimosas dès les années 20 mais surtout à partir de 1937, quand il s’installe dans sa villa La Baie qu’il a faite construire à Sanary-sur-Mer. Il puise son sujet directement dans son jardin où fleurit l’Acacia dealbata. Au-delà d’un travail sur la nature morte et la matérialité duveteuse et mouvante de cette fleur délicate, l’artiste cherche dans cette masse colorée et vibrionnante à évoquer la chaude lumière du Midi.

In vergoldetem Prunkrahmen. Beigegeben eine Expertise von Marc Ottavi, Paris, 2. März 2026, in Kopie. Das Gemälde hebt glatte und runde Formen sowie intensive expressionistische Farben der Fauvisten hervor. Es markiert die Reifephase von Kislings Übergang zum expressionistischen Stil seit 1915. Es zeigt eine Vase auf einer runden blauen Tischplatte, in der ein Strauß mit roten Rosen, Margeriten und gelb leuchtenden Mimosen steht. Der Künstler war ein französischer Maler polnisch-jüdischer Herkunft. Er studierte zunächst an der Akademie der Schönen Künste Krakau, ehe er nach Paris ging und ab 1910 im Stadtteil Montmartre wohnte. Er war mit vielen seiner Zeitgenossen befreundet, u. a. mit seinem Nachbarn Amedeo Modigliani, der ihn malte. Nach der Besetzung Frankreichs im Zweiten Weltkrieg floh er in die USA. Moïse Kisling lui-même écrit à Jacques Thalheimer le 18 février 1926 pour lui indiquer que l’éditeur polonais J. Mortkowiez rue Mazowiecka 12 a emprunté 5 tableaux et devait lui-même les rapporter à Vienne. Les tableaux sont restés à Vienne chez un ami de Kisling, le docteur Roff [?], directeur du Wiener Kunstdruck-Gesellschaft Wien Parkgasse, puis revenus à Paris en passant par le contrôle du BUNDESDENKMALAMT, d’où l’origine du tampon sur le châssis de l’oeuvre. Les thèmes liés au judaïsme demeurent relativement rares dans l’oeuvre de Moïse Kisling. Notre oeuvre s’inscrit plutôt dans la série de portraits inspirés des modèles de rue que l’artiste rencontrait dans le quartier de Montparnasse, telles que les marchandes de fleurs ou les crieurs de journaux. Comme le remarque Jacques Guenne dans l’Art Vivant en 1925, ces portraits sont fréquents dans l’OEuvre de l’artiste : « Kisling s’est penché aussi sur les êtres frêles, sur les pauvres et sur les enfants. Qui ne connait pas ces portraits d’orphelins, de mendiants, toutes ces oeuvres qui atteignent à une si grande émotion, et où Kisling a su retrouver le tragique de certaines images populaires. Kisling lui-même précise : « Un enfant pauvre et malheureux m’attriste ; je le peins dans le sentiment qu’il m’inspire ».

Moïse Kisling was a painter of Polish origin and key figure of the École de Paris, recognized for his portraits, female nudes and still lifes of elegant figuration and great chromatic refinement; born in Krakow, he trained at the Academy of Fine Arts and settled in Paris in 1910, where he was integrated into the environment of the avant-garde and became friends with artists such as Modigliani and Soutine, always maintaining a personal figurative style; He enlisted in the Foreign Legion during the First World War, after which he obtained French nationality, achieving great international success in the twenties and thirties; during the Second World War he was exiled in the United States because of his Jewish origin and returned to France at the end of the conflict, dying in 1953, leaving a work that represents a humanistic and sensual vision of modern art of the twentieth century.
