VOGELSTILLLEBEN Öl auf Leinwand. Doubliert. 142 x 164 cm. Signiert auf dem Endstück des Gewehres „L. Knyff“. Ungerahmt. Dargestellt auf einer steinernen Tischplatte ein Vogelstillleben mit einem erlegten Schwan, Fasanen und vielen weiteren Vögeln. Der Hals des Schwans geschickt über das Gewehr gelegt und sich hinter der marmorierten Pulverflasche abzeichnend. Rest. Knyff war Schüler des Wouter Knyff (um 1607-um 1693) und dessen Sohn. Er war bekannt für seine Blumenstillleben, aber auch für seine englischen Ansichten, da er ab 1679 in Londong lebte und arbeitete. Dutch and British Schools, 18th Century Three Maps The first, Johannes Kip (Dutch 1653-1722) after Leonard Knyff (Dutch 1650-1721), Hutton Hall the seat of the Honorable Sir George Fletcher Bart, in the County of Cumberland, from Johannes Kip's Britannia Illustration a Survey of English Castles, Palaces and Country Houses during the Reign of Queen Anne, a two page engraving with later hand-coloring; the second, Robert Sayer, publisher, A Perspective View of the Town and Fortifications of Malta, engraving with later hand-coloring; and the third, An Exact Draught of the BAY and Harbour of Vigo, For Mr. Tindall's Continuation of Mr. Rapin's History of England, engraved map with later hand-coloring, drawn up to a scale of 1 inch:1 mile and showing the bay and harbor with surrounding hills, schematic representations of the town of Vigo and other habitations, many ships shown in the bay and the harbor, several named, several keyed to an explanatory panel detailing their commanders and significant movements and further marked J Bafire Sculp., the mouth of the bay with a compass, and labelled The mouth of the River Vigo near the Island of Bajona, where Admiral Shovell of the White Flagg with his squadron, came at Anchor y e 12 of Oct.1702; center fold with some staining along the top, with one tear u.l.c. and spreading around the crease. Group comprises of "Brightwel in the County of Suffolk the Seat of the Hon.ble St. Samuel Barnardiston, Barr.tt", inscribed lower left "L.Knyff De." and lower right "J.Kip Scul." (unframed sight size 15" x 20"); and "Knole The Seat of Tho: Chester Esq.", inscribed lower right "J. Kip Delin e Sculp" (unframed sight size 14.5" x 18.5"). Framed 25.25" x 29.75".Note: Kip and Knyff forged a career together producing views of country houses and gardens for "Britannia Illustrata (aka. Views of Several of the Queens Palaces and also of the Principal Seats of the Nobility & Gentry of Great Britain)", published in England in the first quarter of 18th century.
