Peter le Cave,  Dutch / British 1769-c.1810-  A farmer in a horse and cart, transporting cattle on a country track, with a woman and child walking alongside;  watercolour on paper, 14.1 x 20.1 cm. (VAT charged on Hammer Price).  Note:  Le Cave (sometimes La Cave) was in England from at least 1789 until 1812, and painted many views of Berkshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, Worcestershire, Devonshire and the area around Leeds. He was a friend of Julius Caesar Ibbetson (1759-1817) and an assistant to George Morland (1763-1804), both of whose influence is recognisable in the present work.

Peter La Cave (fl 1789-1817). A Watercolour Landscape with horseman and lady conversing, 4¾ in x 6¾ in (12 cm x 17 cm), mounted and re-framed 12¾ in x 14¾ in (32.5 cm x 37.5 cm). An unusual work by La Cave to include a mounted figure but undoubtedly that of the Franco English artist known as the 'English Bergham'. His work was admired by Cotman and examples of his are in such museums as the B.M., V&A and FitzWilliam.
