Born in Bangor, Maine, Lansil came from a prominent artistic family and studied both in the United States and abroad, spending significant time in Paris, where he was influenced by academic realism and the French tradition of meticulous draftsmanship. His work is characterized by careful composition, subtle lighting, and a polished, highly finished surface, qualities that made his paintings appealing to collectors during his lifetime.
