(1848 Florenz - um 1910 ebenda) "Quanto ti vo bene!...". Originaltitel Weißer Carrara-Mamor. Betitelt, sign. u. dat. 1881 mit Ortsangabe Firenze (Florenz). Vollplastische Darstellung eines italienischen Hirtenknaben in Tracht, einen Stab quer auf den Schultern haltend, den Kopf verliebt zur Seite neigend. Früheste bekannte Version der Skulptur, die er danach noch mehrmals wiederholte. Cesare Lapini, in Florenz geboren, avancierte zu einem der bedeutendsten Bildhauer seiner Generation. Er schuf Marmorwerke, darunter allegorische und mythologische Darstellungen, Kopien antiker Vorbilder, Genredarstellungen, Porträtbüsten, Bildnisse weiblicher Schönheiten, mehr oder minder bekeidete Akte, Venusfiguren etc.; Diese Skulpturen verkaufte er mit großem Erfolg zusammen mit Werken seiner Zeitgenossen in seiner Galerie in Florenz an Reisende der Grand Tour, die, nachdem sie im 18. Jh. auf den Adel beschränkt gewesen war, nun auch das wohlhabende Bürgertum aus Großbritannien, Deutschland, Russland, Frankreich und natürlich den Vereinigten Staaten umfasste. 1884 stellte Lapini eine Reihe von Skulpturen auf der "Esposizione Generale Italiana" in Turin aus, 1888 präsentierte er seine Werke auch in Rom, 1893 auf der Weltausstellung in Chicago, 1900 auf der Weltausstellung in Paris, 1904 in St. Louis. Lapini wurde für die Feinheit und Raffinesse seiner Technik, die subtile Oberflächenbehandlung und die emotionale Ausdruckskraft seiner figurativen Arbeiten hoch geschätzt. Minim. best.; H. 83 cm. A native of Florence, Cesare Lapini became a highly successful sculptor in the later 19th century. He sold both his own and others works to an international clientele from his workshop/gallery in the city, the business usually designated Fratelli Lapini (or Signori Lapini, Dizionario degli Artisti Italiani Viventi, Pittori, Scultori e Architetti, edited by Angelo De Gubernatis, Florence, 1889, pp.256/580), the firm apparently continuing to trade after his death, then usually designated Galleria Lapini, into the early 20th century. His similar bathing figure 'La Sorpresa' is well known, since oft repeated in both marble and alabaster, unlike the present rare model.

CESARE LAPINI (Italy, 1848 - ca. 1910). "Dopo il bagno". Florence, 1885. White marble. Signed on the base. Measurements: 85 cm. height. Cesare Lapini takes up again in this sculpture the Greco-Roman theme of the Venus pudica, although humanizing it by concretizing it in the figure of an ordinary girl, devoid of the supernatural aura of Aphrodite. In a gesture between amusing and modest, the young woman crosses her right arm over her chest and with her left hand she holds the lower part of the towel. This acquires the texture of a flowing garment, and has been executed with extreme delicacy, enveloping the naked body. Cesare Lapini was an Italian sculptor, active mainly in Florence. Lapini sculpted both small marbles and larger works. Many of his subjects were female. Among his works are "Surprise", a young woman surprised while undressing; "Il primo bacio"; "Quanto ti voglio bene", "Non lo credo"; "Fior del pensiero"; "La serenata" and "Amore del mare".
