Original envelope included. Signed letter from influential New Orleans surrealist photographer Clarence John Laughlin to Mrs. Hilda Harrison, mother of Dody Weston Thompson. A native of New Orleans, Harrison was active in the art world of the French Quarter where she counted Laughlin as a friend. The photographer responds to a Christmas card by Harrisonand reflects on on his current work including another book for Crown Publishers who had recently sold 60,000 copies of his book on the southern plantations. He also mentions his Philadelphia Museum of Art retrospective which would be opening at the New Orleans Museum of Art within days of the letter. "This is the first recognition I have received in N.O."
