        ROBERT LAVIN. Heavy Industry. Illustration for an advertisement for United Engineers, circa 1960. Oil on masonite. 435x570 mm; 17x22 1/2 inches, framed to 21x26 1/2 inches. Signed "Lavin" in red, lower right. Lavin was an American Social Realist painter whose industrial works were greatly revered and collected by The Smithsonian among other notable institutions. An accomplished and highly sought-after security engraver, he was commissioned to design several bank notes including the 1971 Playboy stock vignette through his work for the American Bank Note Company.
