Leman war 1919 eines der Gründungsmitglieder der Künstlerbewegung "Das Junge Rheinland" und der erste Meisterschüler von Heinrich Nauen (1880-1940). - Unser großformatiges Bild zeigt die knorrigen Stämme zweier Bäume, deren frische Blütenpracht über den gedrungenen und gewundenen Stämmen zu schweben scheint. Leman, Ulrich 1885 Düsseldorf - 1987 Deià/Mallorca Still life with tortoise. 1966. Gouache on thin paper. 68 x 54cm. Signed and dated lower center: Ulrich Leman 1966. Framed. Not examined out of the frame. Intermittendly, Leman studied between 1904 and circa 1922 at the Düsseldorf Art Academy under Münzer and Gebhardt. In 1922 he joined the group "Das Junge Rheinland" [The Young Rhineland]. Until 1936 he travelled Europe and met artists Wollheim, Jupp Bell, and Johanna Ey while staying in Mallorca in 1927. After his exclusion from the Kulturkammer under the Nationalsocialists, he withdrew to Mallorca which became his second home.
