    Signed "H. Levasseur" in the casting. Raised on a cylindrical base signed: H. Levasseur, with applied name plaque. Henri Louis Levasseur was a French figural sculptor best known for his realistic depictions of historic figures, mythological figures, and religious themes. His sculptures are known for their dynamic naturalistic depictions of subjects which appear to be captured in mid-movement. Levasseur studied with Auguste Dumont, Gabriel Jules Thomas, and E. Planche. He won many awards during his lifetime, at both the Salon des Artistes Français and the Art Exposition in Paris. Today, Levasseur’s works are in the collections of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow, the Grohmann Museum at the Milwaukee School of Engineering, and the Columbia Museum of Art at the University of South Carolina, among others. Paris Spelter: "Paris Fabrique Nationale" refers to a French foundry known for producing cast spelter (also known as régule in French) objects, particularly between 1892 and 1915. The foundry was based in Paris and produced a variety of items, including lamps, statues, and decorative pieces. The spelter castings were often given a bronze-like finish through patination or electroplating.     HENRI LOUIS LEVASSEUR (Paris, 1853-1934). "Athena on Pegasus". Gilded bronze (later patina). Portoro marble pedestal. Presents some chipping on the base. Needs to be reworked (one wing is a little loose). With Goldscheider stamp. Measurements: 80 x 67,5 x 37 cm. This sculpture shows the Greek goddess Athena on the winged horse Pegasus, a sculptural ensemble based on the myth that tells that Pegasus was found on Mount Olympus in the care of Athena. It was the goddess who tamed and trained the horse so that mortals could ride it. The sculptor Henri Louis Levasseur was known for his Art Nouveau style representations of historical figures, mythological and religious themes. His creations are characterized by the realism and movement of his postures. Trained with Auguste Dumont, Gabriel Jules Thomas and E. Planche. Planche, Levasseur received numerous awards (both at the Salon des Artistes Français and at the Paris Art Exhibition). Today it is possible to find his works in the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow, in the Grohmann Museum at the Milwaukee School of Engineering and in the Columbia Museum of Art at the University of South Carolina, among others.

    An antique 19th century bronze statue Femme de France by Henri Louis Levasseur, French 1853 to 1934. The statue depicts a young woman wearing a long dress and holding a staff with a banner. The surface is covered with a nice medium brown patina and features great details. Raised on a cylindrical base signed: H. Levasseur, with applied name plaque. Note: Henri Louis Levasseur was a sculptor and craftsman working in Paris, France. He studied under Eugene Delaplanche, Emile Thomas and Auguste Dumont. He began exhibiting at the Salon des Artistes Francais in 1881 and his work received distinction in the Exhibition of 1882. He went on to receive a third-place medal in 1885, a second-place medal in 1888, was awarded at the Exposition Universelle with bronze in 1889, a first-class medal in 1898 and silver medal at the 1900 Exposition Universelle where he presented a Jeanne d Arcin bronze, silver, gold, fine pearls and rubies. His works are held in collections around the world, including the Grohmann Museum in Milwaukee, the Columbia Museum of Art in South Carolina and the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow.     An antique 19th century bronze statue Femme de France by Henri Louis Levasseur, French 1853 to 1934. The statue depicts a young woman wearing a long dress and holding a staff with a banner. The surface is covered with a nice medium brown patina and features great details. Raised on a cylindrical base signed: H. Levasseur, with applied name plaque. Note: Henri Louis Levasseur was a sculptor and craftsman working in Paris, France. He studied under Eugene Delaplanche, Emile Thomas and Auguste Dumont. He began exhibiting at the Salon des Artistes Francais in 1881 and his work received distinction in the Exhibition of 1882. He went on to receive a third-place medal in 1885, a second-place medal in 1888, was awarded at the Exposition Universelle with bronze in 1889, a first-class medal in 1898 and silver medal at the 1900 Exposition Universelle where he presented a Jeanne d Arcin bronze, silver, gold, fine pearls and rubies. His works are held in collections around the world, including the Grohmann Museum in Milwaukee, the Columbia Museum of Art in South Carolina and the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow.
