    Est: $70 - $90

    (1895 - 1979) American major general who commanded the 91st Infantry Division which entered combat at Anzio. The division fought 160 offensive miles across mountains, rivers and plains playing a leading role in the final destruction of the German armies in Italy. Lot of two T.L.S.'s "Bill", 2pp. total 4to., Fort Knox, 1949 to his World War I commanding officer of the 28th Regiment, CLARENCE R. HUEBNER (1888-1972), American major general who commanded the 1st Infantry Division in its assault on Omaha Beach, in the drive across France, at the Hurtgen Forest and in the battle of Aachen. Largely friendly content expressing dismay for being unable to visit during a trip to Europe, also mentioning: "Things seem to be as busy after the lifting of the [Berlin] blockade as they were before. I know you have many headaches..." With carbon copies of Huebner's associated letters as well. File holes at top, else fine.
