(lower right), 13 x 10 cm. Provenance: with the Cooling Galleries, London. Private Collection, UK. Note: Lucas's output was characterised by his small-scale and highly intricate paintings of flowers and foliage. Indeed, the diminutive size of the present work emphasises the density of the flowers within the scene, creating an alluring sense of plenty which is reinforced by the presence of the butterfly, clearly attracted to this bounty.
