      Paul Lucas (1664 Rouen - 1737 Madrid): Map 'Aegyptus Hodierna' - Today's Egypt, c. 1720, Copper engraving Technique: Hand colored Copper engraving on Paper Inscription: On the left, five views as cartouches. They show the Nile Falls, several pyramids, grottos and the travelling artist at the drawing board with two Egyptians. Paul Lucas was a French merchant, explorer and antiquarian in the service of Louis XIV. He made three extended journeys to Egypt and the Near East. The map was published by Johann Baptist HOMANN (1664 Oberkammlach - 1724 Nuremberg). Thanks to these research trips, the present illustrated map could be produced.
