Attributed to Reynaldo Luza (Peru, 1893-1978) South American Indigenismo Regionalism Watercolor Painting c. 1948. The obverse of the mounting board features a handwritten label attributing the piece, titled “The Women of Puno Peru,” to Reynaldo Luza, circa 1948. After examining the signature bottom left and the handwritten label along the backing board, we cannot conclusively say this work was made by Luza. The signature along the artwork does not match his own but the style and technique of the piece is similar to some of his non-commercial pieces. The frame, as well as the handwritten label, appear to be period. Signature Signed illegibly lower left, the obverse of the backing board features a handwritten label that’s titled and inscribed “The Women of Puno Peru Reynaldo Luza” and possibly dated “48.” The bottom left of the paper features a chop mark for French-made Canson C" à grain paper Support 9.875 x 12.875 inch Canson C" à grain paper Frame 15.5 x 19.5 Approx. Weight 3.90 lbs Condition Paper shows some abrasions, scattered paint loss, toning, and some matte burn. Paper is not adhered to backing. Matte is cut off center. Painting was found in frame, which lacks the hardware needed to hang in landscape. Frame shows some loss of surface coating. Please see our multiple images.

Links oben monogrammiert und rechts unten mit Bleistift datiert bzw. links oben bezeichnet oder signiert und datiert. 1928. Wohl entstanden im Rahmen der Veröffentlichung eines Werbealbums zur Firmengeschichte des einflussreichen deutsch-französischen Textilherstellers der Haute-Couture KBC im Jahre 1928. - Der aus Lima in Peru stammende Reynaldo Luza y Argaluza studierte zunächst in Löwen bevor er als Illustrator zuerst in Peru und anschließend für Harper's Bazar in New York arbeitete, wo er 1921 zum Chef-Modeillustrator ernannt wurde. Ab 1922 arbeitete er für Harper's Bazar in Paris und arbeitete mit den führenden Modedesignern und Künstlern seiner Zeit, darunter Paul Poiret, Coco Chanel, Salvador Dalí, Max Ernst und Man Ray. - Léon Bénigni war einer der gefragtesten Werbegraphiker seiner Zeit und war unter anderem ebenfalls für Harper's Bazar tätig. Measures 22.5 in. x 23 in. image size and 32.75 in. x 32.75 in. framed. Appears to be in Near Mint condition, not examined out of framing. Provenance: Formerly the personal collection of Robert Osborne, then by descent through family of Mr. Osborne.
