    Arthur Stewart Mackay, British, (1909 - 1998), "The Note Home," oil on board, unsigned, identified on the artist's handwritten label on the verso, measures 15 x 11.50 inches unframed, 16 x 12.50 inches framed. CONDITION: Good, somewhat dirty. A charming oil sketch of a World War I soldier writing home. A member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters (R.O.I.), Mackay was a painter and graphic artist who is best known for his "Scotland is Beautiful" poster designed for the SMT in 1946. He was the author of the popular how-to book, "How to Make Lino Cuts," published in 1935.
